TENS is the abbreviation for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and is a machine used for pain relief. TENS works by transmitting electrical impulses via special electrode pads though the skin. The placement of the TENS electrode pads is carefully selected to target the problematic areas which are causing pain. The theory is that the electrical impulses from the machine modifies the pain signals which are transmitted to the brain via the nerves.
TENS machines are widely used by lower pack pain and sciatica sufferers as a means of obtaining pain relief. TENS units are also used to control conditions such as knee pain, shoulder pain, after surgeries, arthritis, amputations or cancer. The TENS unit is a pocket-sized battery powered device that you can travel with or even take with you to work.
